The president José Jerí met this Saturday, October 11 at Government Palace with representatives of the main transport unions to address the insecurity crisis that hits the sector. After this meeting, some leaders made known their position regarding the national strike called by citizens for this October 15. The opinions were diverse: while some leaders indicated that they cannot ignore the citizen unrest that motivates the protest, others ruled out joining the mobilization.
Miguel Ángel Palomino, president of the National Confederation of Transporters of Peru, clarified that his organization has not called for the strike, but admitted that there is understanding towards the causes that drive the social protest. “We have not called for October 15, but we must understand that the population has an understandable platform and we cannot rule out support,” he commented.

In contrast, Martín Ojeda, director of the International Chamber of Transportation, maintained that his union will not participate in the mobilization. He assured that, for now, they will maintain the truce agreed with the Executive to evaluate compliance with the commitments made.
“We are not going to stop in the next few days (…) We have agreed to wait the long enough time that the minutes say, but indicating that they have greater security (…) Next week governability is at stake (…) We are not going to abide by that strike (mobilization of October 15),” he said.
The division between the transporters shows the climate of tension that the country is going through after the departure of Dina Boluarte and the arrival of José Jerí to power. Social unrest continues to grow and the strike on October 15, called by citizen groups, seeks to express rejection of the authorities of the different powers of the State.

Generation Z calls for a march against José Jerí this October 12
The youth group ‘Generation Z’ has called for a “peaceful and massive” demonstration this Sunday, October 12, in rejection of the government of José Jerí, which they do not recognize as a legitimate authority. They point out that their protest precedes the national strike on October 15 and seek to add citizens to the popular outcry against what they consider a corrupt pact that is trying to impose itself authoritatively.
In their statement they demand the expulsion of the “corrupt pact” that, according to them, was imposed on José Jerí, and rejects the actions of Congress. Furthermore, he calls on the National Police and the Armed Forces to act “in favor of the people” and not against the protesters, appealing to a sense of institutional empathy.
The call is framed at a time of high political tension: the strike on October 15, supported by unions from different sectors and the university bloc, seeks to express discontent regarding insecurity, corruption and the lack of responses from the new government. Generation Z intends to join this citizen agenda, warning that the time to demonstrate is “yesterday or never.”
