The Minister of Transportation and Public Works, José Luis Falero, and the nation’s internal auditor, Pablo Morelli, signed an agreement on Monday 23, in order to define the guidelines to carry out an internal audit in the state portfolio, with the support of a company providing consulting services. “We have to be certain that we are doing things as established by current regulations,” said Falero.
At the event held in the Giannatassio room of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP), Falero and Morelli were accompanied by the undersecretary of that portfolio, Juan José Olaizola, and the general director of the Secretariat, Graciela Soler.
The minister highlighted the imprint of the improvement and the adequacy of controls in the public administration developed by the Internal Audit of the Nation (AIN). “We want to give it strong relevance due to the importance of permanent monitoring of management commitments,” he said.
In the same way, he highlighted the value of reviewing the procedures carried out in recent times, to correct eventual failures. In particular, the agreement will relieve the expropriation procedures for the construction of the Central Railroad. “It is a work that, for Uruguay, has generated a strong impact, and we want to be sure that the procedures have been correct,” he said.
He explained that the expropriations of land require analyzing a significant number of files, for which the Internal Audit of the Nation will have the support of an external consultant for the task.
Morelli, meanwhile, reported that the agreement is part of “a general policy that the Government and the Central Administration have”, which tends to strengthen the internal audit function as an input for continuous improvement, the effective fulfillment of assigned tasks organizations and transparency in management.
