Transportation and communications, the sector that grew the most in Querétaro's labor market

Querétaro, Qro. The transportation and communications industry is the one that grew the most in the formal employment during the last year, according to reports from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

This segment increased jobs by 11.2%, because one year it added 4,673 new workers, increasing from 41,847 to 46,520 jobs between September 2023 and the same month in 2024.

Then the extractive industries which advanced from 2,011 to 2,161 formal jobs, incorporating 150 employees, which represented an annual increase of 7.5 percent.

The third sector with the most job growth It is the trade that advanced from 116,668 to 122,921 jobs, with the incorporation of 6,253 profiles that represented an increase of 5.4 percent.

The list continues with electrical industrycollection and supply of drinking water, which presented an annual growth of 3.5% in employment; and social and communal services that increased 3.4 percent.

The rest of the branches grew below the state average, 2.4%; that is the case of the construction industry that increased its hiring by 1.5%; The processing industry, despite being one of the main employers in the state, registered a variation of just 0.7%; in services for companies, people and the home the increase was 0.7%; In agriculture, livestock, forestry, fishing and hunting, employment increased 0.5 percent.

Commerce, the one that added the most positions

In the last 12 months, 17,086 jobs were created in the state; In absolute figures, the sectors that added the most employment are tradeas well as transportation and communications.

In commerce, 6,253 new jobs were generated in the last year, as of September, contributing 36.6% of the jobs added in that period.

Afterwards, the transport and communications contributed 27.3% of the total, social and communal services 12.7%, the transformation industry 9.9%, construction 5.8%, services for companies, people and the home 5.3%, extractives 0.9%, electricity, collection and supply of drinking water 0.8% and the agricultural segment 0.6 percent.

The entity closed September with a total of 718,608 jobs registered in the IMSS; of them, the processing industry contributes 34.7%, services for companies, people and the home with 19.3%, commerce with 17.1%, construction with 9.3% and social and communal services with 9.1%; The remaining, 10.4%, is contributed by other items.
