A sector of transporters announced that they will carry out a national strike on October 10 due to the wave of violence and crime that affects the country, especially its sector, where on a daily basis they have to deal with extortion and collection of quotas.

At a press conference held this Saturday, transport leaders ask that Dina Boluarte’s government take concrete actions against citizen insecurity, in order to stop the attacks against buses, drivers, conductors and pullers of urban transport.
Edgar Vítor, Secretary of United Transportation, assured the RPP that the unions did agree to carry out a nationwide strike. “The national strike is approved, but it is not only at the Lima level but at the national level. At no point in the meeting, in which we have been, has it been said that there is no strike. We as a Peruvian union have accepted the strike,” he indicated.
“We want you to give us clear proposals. We don’t want them to simply receive us to tell us that they are doing a project. The people cannot wait, it is urgent,” he emphasized.
Hernán Mendieta, leader of the transportation sector, denounced the ineffectiveness of the measures adopted by the authorities to confront this problem. According to Mendieta, the state of emergency has not managed to stop crime rates, which is why he described it as a “salute to the flag.”
“The transportation sector and citizens in general must unite to fight against this scourge that is claiming lives”Mendieta emphasized.
Nevertheless, Martín Valeriano, president of the National Association for the Integration of Transporters (Anitra), indicated that they will not join the strike and hinted that They will call for a total stoppage, if the authorities do not listen to their demands, Well, they have given him a period of one month.
Martín Valeriano indicated that, if positive results are not found, a national shutdown will be evaluated again.
