The artificial island project has put on the table different opinions about its viability, both from the government and from the Municipality of Montevideo. But towards the interior of the Executive, in addition, little or no coordination is evident.
The Minister of Transportation and Public Works, José Luis Falero, said that the project had the endorsement of the Executive Branch and the Montevideo City Hall refused, and therefore the investment -of 2,300 million dollars over ten years- will have to be redirected if investors continue betting on Uruguay.
The Secretary of State pointed out that it is an initiative “of great magnitude”, for which he hopes that it will continue in the country and that the investors will replan and reorient the project towards a place that may be viable and does not affect the autonomy of the governments. departmental

However, the Minister of the Environment, Adrián Peña, assured that he does not even have a project line.
“Everything suggests that it is a complex project from an environmental point of view, but we still don’t have it,” he remarked.
Peña pointed out that the Ministry of the Environment has to give an opinion when it has the proposal, an instance in which the technicians will analyze the environmental impact and if it is viable.
“Our Ministry has to make technically based decisions, so when the time comes our opinion will be technical,” he clarified.
