The Minister of Transport, Alexis Guerrera, raised the need to “expand the range of exportable products, boost regional economies and promote multimodality”during the Federal Waterway Council carried out in Chaco, where agreements were signed to develop works in different provincial ports for an investment of more than $950 million.

The new meeting of the Federal Waterway Council took place today in the city of Resistencia, where Guerrera presented different proposals to advance in the development of the Main Waterwaywhose main objectives were to expand the range of exportable products, strengthen regional economies and promote multimodality.

Governors Jorge Capitanich (Chaco), Axel Kicillof (Buenos Aires), Gustavo Bordet (Entre Ríos), Gildo Insfrán (Formosa) were present at the meeting; the lieutenant governor of Misiones, Carlos Arce; the Secretary of Federal Management of Santa Fe, Candelaria González del Pino; and the director of River Transport and Ports of Corrientes, Adolfo Escobar.

The comptroller of the General Administration of Ports, José Beni; and the national director of Control of Ports and Waterways, Nuri Sánchez Edorna, among other officials.

In this sense, he remarked that he brought to the meeting “multiple proposals for this Council, among them that of expanding the borders to the north and to the south of what is the historic trunk waterway to find the mechanisms to reach Posadas and Formosa. towards the north, and towards the Magdalena channel in the south”.

In addition, after underlining the value of the Council meetings, Guerrera valued the integration of the provinces and discussed other possible measures to move forward.

“Before there was no Federal Waterway Council, today there is. That Waterway, which was always based more on the gaze or on the ports of certain provinces, leaving others forgotten, today is included not only in the Council, but also in the proposals that we bring from the Ministry, such as the extension of the toll and the financing and maintenance mechanisms from Santa Fe to Confluencia”.

Likewise, the minister concluded with the importance that the Federal Council represents as the decision-making body for Argentine sovereignty and productive and commercial development, and stated: “Our entire transportation system has a lot to do with what happens in the Hidrovía and we have a lot to do”.

“So, this Federal Council is obliged to take a much broader, much more panoramic view of what is happening and what this waterway means because we are facing a historic opportunity,” he added.

With an eye on continuing to promote provincial port activities, Guerrera also signed agreements to develop, assist and collaborate with works for the Posadas port in Misiones, the Márquez port in Entre Ríos, the Formosa port and the San Nicolás port in Buenos Aires. Aires, and for the ports of Chaco.

The works, which include an improvement of infrastructure, preparation of construction projects and enhancement of accesses, entail an investment of more than 950 million pesos.

At the beginning of the round of presentations, Capitanich stated: “We believe that it is very important to work on a series of technical points so that, among other things, the treaty -of the Waterway- is reviewed with an international perspective because we have to correct asymmetries between the countries members of the same and we also need a regulatory framework for river transport to strengthen our ports as well as a large investment plan for dredging and marking”.

We need clarifications,” requested the Peronist president, and concluded: “We all hope that these meetings will materialize in actions, since we must leave the time of absurd debate and go to the concrete and that is why we understand that secondary waterways are very important for our provinces that also allow greater growth of our regional economies”.

In line with the commitment made at the last meeting of the Federal Waterway Council, the national and provincial authorities increased the frequency of these meetings with the aim of promptly advancing in the planning of the bidding documents for the works and the administration of the tendencies. to the trunk waterway.

The Federal Council of the Paraná-Paraguay Waterway is made up of the provinces of Buenos Aires, Corrientes, Chaco, Entre Ríos, Formosa, Misiones and Santa Fe; together with the national ministries of Interior, Productive Development; and Transportation.

The Navigable Way is a 1,635-kilometre river route that allows different types of cargo vessels to go to the ocean, and its layout is partially expressed in the Paraná, Paraná de las Palmas, and Río de la Plata rivers, constituting a exit channel of approximately 80% of national exports.
