After a renegotiation with the National Development Corporation, the Ministry of Transport and Public Works will expand the current contract with the aforementioned institution, to build 209 bridges, declared the head of that state secretariat, José Luis Falero, this April 7. He also added that the ministry will analyze the possibility of moving Montevideo port’s passenger terminal to another area.
After the ministerial agreement with the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, José Luis Falero reported on the issues discussed.
First of all, the chief announced that the contract with the National Development Corporation will be extended, which will allow the incorporation of new works and achieve a record of construction and improvement of 209 bridges throughout the country. Likewise, the chief reported that the process of complying with works on the road network achieved 85% progress.
In another order, he explained that in the future, together with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, a first stage of modernization and adaptation of the port of Montevideo will be analyzed, which, according to his words, will provide hierarchy to port activity. Linked to this, he added that one of the issues being discussed is the possibility of moving the passenger terminal to another area, to avoid affecting traffic on the port esplanade. In this regard, he stated that two private proposals have been submitted that seek to resolve this issue.
On the other hand, the chief mentioned that the use of tritrains, whose objective is for producers to reduce costs in merchandise transfers, is already in process. In this regard, he said that there are already routes that allow the transit of this class of vehicles and it is even expected that the planned works on several bridges over Route 8 will allow this type of traffic.
Regarding collection at toll booths, the minister stated that it is a process and reiterated that there will be automatic collection boxes through the use of tags or by Sucive. He assured that the crossing is insured for everyone, including foreigners. Presidency
