Thai tycoon and transgender activist Anne Jakapong Jakrajutatip, known as Anne JKN, has bought the traditional beauty pageant
“Miss Universe” for 20 million dollars with the goal to make the organization more “inclusive” and also hold the famous event “more often in Thailand”.“We would love to make the competition more international, of course, and we can celebrate it with more often in Thailand, as they did in the United States,” announced this Thursday (27.10.2022) at a press conference in Bangkok, Thailand.
“We want to encourage the Thai government to support it, as a way to boost the economy and benefit from the tourism it generates,” added the businesswoman, who she is also an activist for the rights of the transgender community in Thailand and has participated in reality TV contests in his country.
An “international and inclusive” organization
Anne JKN, who has an estimated fortune of $170 million according to Forbes, is the CEO of the media conglomerate and JKN Global Group content.
His new acquisition will be in charge of making television shows in Thailand that seek to “build on the legacy of more than 70 years of Miss Universe”, an international organization and inclusive that celebrates women of all profiles, cultures and traditions”.
The businesswoman, who has established a US subsidiary, JKN Metaverse Inc., in order to acquire the Miss Universe Organization, is famous in Thailand, where she speaks openly of being a transgender woman and established a foundation to promote transgender rights, Life Inspired For Transsexual Foundation.
The “Miss Universe” pageant has been held annually for 71 years, broadcast in more than 160 countries.
