The interministerial commission, headed by the Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, met this Monday at the Cascabel school, located in the Cascabel district, Mironó district, Ngäbe Buglé region, to report on the progress of the installation and assembly of 18 modular classrooms in said educational center.
Minister Gorday de Villalobos indicated that 80% progress has been made in terms of the awarding of the work and the reception for the transfer of the materials, which begins in the month of May.
He explained that on three occasions the public event was declared void due to lack of proponents.
He added that a sum of 1.6 million balboas was allocated to start the work, the process of which is progressing in the Comptroller General’s Office of the Republic.
During the last few months, 16 million balboas have been allocated to the execution of works in the Region, with the interest of meeting the priority needs of the schools. In its first stage, it is planned to assemble 29 modular classrooms through the CON Escuela 2024 program and the support of the Unodad Nations.
At the Cascabel Educational Center, the progress made in the acquisition of materials to build modular classrooms, three theoretical and one multipurpose, four-room dormitories for educators, two latrines for students and another two for teachers, were shown.
The Improving the Quality and Efficiency of the Educational Sector (Mecse) program, which executes this project with an investment of 795,269 balboas, will also build a kitchen and dining room on this campus that has 500 students from preschool to high school.
In another 12 schools, in different areas of the Ngäbe Buglé region, among which are Cerro Pita, Virolí, Cerro Otoe, Carrizal, Molejón, Tinajas, Playa Lorenzo N°2, Manuel Aparicio, Monte Virgen, Bilingüe de San Agustín ( Kankintú), Valle de Guacamaya and Bilingüe de Kusapín, efforts are being made to acquire the necessary elements to install modular classrooms and other spaces that are needed in these study centers.
Community leaders and some representatives of the teaching unions (guarantors) spoke with Minister Gorday de Villalobos and the work team made up of the Academic Vice Minister of Education, Ariel Rodríguez:. Zacarías Álvarez, vice minister of the MOP, the coordinator of Mecse, Lizbeth Ramos; Cristobal Tuñón, General Secretary of the Ministry of Government and Braulio Palacios Regional Director of Education, among other authorities.
