Sixth-year high school students from the Liceo de Tranqueras (Rivera) visited Montevideo with the aim of learning about the educational offerings offered by the University of the Republic. The young people traveled from their city together with their teachers in the Hercules plane of the Uruguayan Air Force, which allowed them to add an unprecedented aspect to the adventure.
During their tour, the students of the Medicine, Law and Economics orientations visited the headquarters of the National Public Administration (Anep), where they had the opportunity to meet with some of the authorities. Then they continued their journey to various faculties of the University of the Republic.
The president of Anep, Robert Silva, highlighted that Tranqueras is one of the cities in the country that will receive a strong educational boost, since the construction of Liceo No. 2 is planned, which will begin operating in 2024. “It is a state-of-the-art Baccalaureate, with first-class equipped laboratories”, he valued. Likewise, he highlighted that Liceo No. 1 will undergo building adaptations and will be transformed into a María Espínola educational center. “A Full-Time High School with eight hours of work, three meals, workshops, articulation and coordination proposals and with teachers staying for more than a year. A very good proposal for Tranqueras”.
For her part, counselor Dora Graziano expressed that she received the students “with great emotion and all her heart because sometimes the Deep Interior is a little far from Montevideo, and what we want is the integration of the entire country and its students”. She also highlighted the participation of teachers and families. “That is what is important, that the whole community is involved in education, because education is a responsibility of the whole society. For me it was something very exciting and I received it with great affection when we found out they were coming. Hopefully this will also be repeated in other locations in the Interior”.
The general director of Secondary Education, Jenifer Cherro, welcomed the fact that students came from far away to learn about the educational offer of the University of the Republic. In addition, he thanked the presence of the students, teachers and the management team “who underpin all these issues, and help students feel that there is hope for change through education, which is always an enabling right that promotes social advancement.” , but above all so that they are good people, happy and fulfill their dreams through education”.
