Course taught by CERES for training of local leaders

The person in charge of the Education Division of the Municipality of Cerro Largo was one of the 80 selected among 2,400 applicants to be part of the More Uruguay and More Democracy proposal.

This is a training promoted by the CERES Consulting Company that had virtual, but also in-person instances.

“Back in June or July we heard that the Program was going to come to the city of Melo, that the Economist Ignacio Munyo was touring the country with this proposal from the CERES Institute and De Más Uruguay as a project and Democracy Más was also involved, which is a network of institutions at the Latin American level that are working together and that come together to develop this project” remembered the Teacher Paula Dos Santos.

“There were more than 2,400 people from all over the country, from all political parties and of all ages who presented themselves as candidates. From there, 80 were selected, among whom we were lucky enough to be. You can imagine the joy, satisfaction and sense of privilege I have to have been one of those chosen.” he remarked.

“In the Más Uruguay Program there were 5 thematic axes – communication, transparency, accountability and electoral campaigns – all with the aim of strengthening leadership in our country, of strengthening democracy in Uruguay by generating political and social leaders who defend it” he stated.

“One of the things that caught me the most was the development of interpersonal ties, which always strengthens. Knowing other experiences beyond the fact that we do not share all the ideals that each person has, but the exchange with other people is always very enriching” said the person in charge of the Education Division of the Municipality.

He also highlighted the high academic level of both national and international teachers. “That generated a lot of learning and a lot of desire to continue doing things in our territory” he synthesized.

“The first class was in person in Punta del Este at Enjoy where the 80 participants were. Subsequently, from August to December, we had virtual sessions every Tuesday and Thursday morning with a lot of interaction with the teachers and also between the participants. Last weekend we closed with the delivery of diplomas in Jacksonville, in Zonamérica, where we had the privilege of listening to its President with vast experience, a very accessible person who transferred to us all his experience in that process of more than 35 years of construction of Zonamérica” revealed.

“Participation in this course was extremely positive, we brought many ideas, many contacts to be able to implement new things. “We who are working in the area of education also generate the possibility of establishing links to enhance what we are doing in the role we have to play in the department” he pointed out. “We are very eager to be able to apply the knowledge that we believe serves to continue building a better department with a better quality of life for all its inhabitants” Master Paula Dos Santos finished saying.
