Train on the Havana-Bayamo route is stoned: Ministry of Transportation speaks out

This was reported this Friday by the Ministry of Transportation in Cuba (MITRANS), pointing out that the incident It occurred around 10:35 AM on October 3 and the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) was notified that it is already “working on the investigation.”

“Luckily, there were no injuries as a result of this event, although there is a wound in one of the 80 cars imported from China in 2019, out of a plan of 240 that could not be executed,” says the report cited by the official press.

The national train service in Cuba suffers from resource limitations that affect locomotives, cars, tracks and the entire railway infrastructure.

“Acts like this, which endanger the lives of passengers and crew, cannot be explained by the coherence and values ​​that all human beings must profess,” MITRANS highlights.

Incidents of vandalism against public transportation are not abnormal on the Island. At the end of last May, the state Union of Railways of Cubareported on Facebook an attack against the train on the Havana-Holguín route during one early morning.

“In the city of Santa Clara, at kilometer 277,500 of the Central Line and close to a sawmill, an unfortunate incident of stone-throwing occurred,” the publication states.

The text was accompanied by photographs of the train in question and the damage caused to the convoy windows.

“Unscrupulous subjects put people’s safety at risk and attack the media, made available to our population,” the note adds.

A month earlier, in April, three public transportation buses were stoned in Havana, according to reported the Provincial Transportation Company of the Cuban capital.

One of the stoned buses was number 9002, which covered route A 27 at the Palatino terminal.

The incident occurred at the 26 and Puentes Grandes stop due to a fight in the vehicle after which a passer-by threw a stone through the front door, splintering the glass of the driver’s cabin.
