Netflix released the official trailer for “Blonde”, a film in which the Spanish-Cuban actress Ana de Armas will play Marilyn Monroe and will compete for the Golden Lion at the next Venice Film Festival.
“I can’t do another scene with Marilyn Monroe”; “Marilyn Monroe only exists on the screen,” are some of the phrases that De Armas recites with glassy eyes in the 2-minute trailer in which some of the most popular scenes of the American icon are recreated.
After its premiere in Venice, “Blonde” It will hit the Netflix catalog on September 28.
Filmmaker Andre Domink (“Chopper”) directed this film, shot mainly in black and white, based on the novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates, which tells how Norma Jeane Baker, the daughter of a single mother and victim of abuse, became the most persecuted celebrity in the world, under the pseudonym of Marilyn Monroe.
Those responsible for the film advanced that they did not treat the story as a biographical film to use because its script addresses, from a more experimental level, the lights and shadows that surrounded the star throughout its life.
Like the novel, “Blonde” will recreate iconic moments from Monroe’s life and career, such as her performance in the 1953 Howard Hawks musical “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” but will also take “dramatic licenses” with her life and the characters in your environment.
“The film focuses on the relationship with herself and with that other person, Marilynwhich is both her armor and her greatest threat”, advances the director in the film’s production notes, in which he also describes Ana de Armas’ absolute commitment to the character.
