Santo Domingo.– Two women of Canadian nationality died and others 17 people were injured after a traffic accident that occurred on the Eastern Highway, in an East-West direction, specifically in the kilometer return 10 of Cumayasa, El Hoyo sector, in the La Romana province.
General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (DIGESETT), explained to The Day, that the event was a landslide that involved a King Long brand bus, white, license plate I122381.
In the vehicle They transported passengers of Canadian nationalityresulting in a total of 19 people affected: 17 injured (9 men and 8 women) and 2 deceased, both female, as a result of the blows and injuries suffered on impact.
Injured driver
The bus was driven by Juan Pablo Villa Cuevas, who was also injured and was admitted to the Canela II Clinic.
The authorities reported that the driver underwent a breathalyzer test, which gave a negative result.
Transferred to various medical centers
The injured were transferred to different health centers in La Romana, including Clínica Canela I, Clínica Canela II, Central Romana, Clínica Coral, Clínica Dr. Logroño and the Fiallo Hospital, where they receive medical care.
DIGESETT agents and other authorities immediately arrived at the scene to provide assistance to the victims and make traffic in the area viable.
The case is under investigation to determine the circumstances under which the accident occurred.
