Santo Domingo.-With the recovery this Saturday of the lifeless body of the tourist who had been missing since Friday, the number of foreigners who drowned on Arena Gorda beach, in Punta Cana, La Altagracia province, who were staying at the tourist complex, rises to four. Riu Hotels & Resorts.
The last body found is that of Jakub Tomasz Pedziach, 54 years old, who was dragged by the strong waves towards the shore of the hotel beachaccording to the emergency authorities of that town.
Now the deceased are three men and a woman, all adults, who had arrived in the Dominican Republic on vacation.
In the report issued by the Management and Risk Directorate of the Verón Mayor’s Office, the other dead were identified as: Marcin Teodor Checinski, 47 years old; Sylwia Aleksandra, 52, and Nelzon Nuñes Ribeiro, 67.
There are three drowned foreigners of Polish nationality and one from Portugal.
Three recover
Before finding the fourth deceased person, RIU Hotels & Resorts expressed its solidarity with the affected families in a statement.
In addition, he revealed that three others receive stable medical care, so far there are seven foreigners directly involved in this tragic event.

“The hotel’s medical staff and a team of collaborators immediately realized and detected the possible drowning of the guests, and managed to stabilize the people with first aid maneuvers. They were later taken to a medical center, but unfortunately they died. Likewise, first aid was given to three other people at sea, who fortunately are in stable condition,” the hotel reported.
In addition, It is revealed that a red flag has been hoisted on the beach of the incident since days before the incident, indicating the presence of strong currents. However, the signal was missed and several guests entered the water and were swept away by the currents.
“The red flag placed on the beach, as a warning, indicated that the sea had an intense current and very high waves, this prevents guests from the danger of entering the open sea in these conditions,” he explains.
The tourist complex maintained that it collaborates hard together with the authorities of that district in all the pertinent requirements to “overcome this difficult” moment.
