On Tuesday, a soldier lost his life and five others were injured during combat with the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla group in the Llana Baja area, in the municipality of Teorama, in the department of Norte de Santander.

The group of soldiers fell into a minefield allegedly installed by the illegal armed group.

The National Army reported that the affected unit was carrying out a stability operation in the area, in order to protect the civilian population and the State’s Strategic Assets.

In the last few hours, the deceased soldier has been identified as Carlos Solano Miranda.

The health status of the injured is currently unknown and they are awaiting medical attention.

The attack was carried out by the ELN’s Hector Front, under the orders of alias Duván, the military forces said in a statement.

Army Statement

Through its account on the social network X, the Army denounced the attack as a “vile terrorist act”, stating that “these acts violate Human Rights (DD.HH.) and International Humanitarian Law (IHL).”

The situation in Norte de Santander remains highly tense, while military authorities are reinforcing security measures in the region.
