On Sunday morning, a tragic event shook the Belén neighborhood of Cúcuta, when Angie Daniela Maldonado, a 23-year-old woman, lost her life after being shot in the abdomen. The incident occurred during a cousin’s fifteenth birthday party, just meters from a police station.
According to local news media, Angie, who was in the first semester of the ‘Pharmaceutical Services Assistant’ program, had an argument with her partner, José Luis Ovalle, regarding a bank transaction that he had requested.
What happened in the early hours of Sunday morning?
The man, visibly upset, asked her to make a money transfer through an app, however, the operation could not be completed due to technical failures on the platform, which triggered an argument between the two.
Minutes later, Ovalle left the party, but returned on a motorcycle with another man. In the midst of the confusion, Ovalle approached Angie, snatched her cell phone and, without saying a word, shot her at point-blank range.
The young woman was immediately transferred to a nearby medical center, but medical efforts were not enough to save her life.
According to authorities, Ovalle, who had recently been released from prison for crimes related to theft and drug trafficking, accused Angie of deceiving him, although the family maintains that the problem arose solely from failures in the banking application.
This tragic event has caused great consternation among Angie’s family, friends and classmates, who are demanding that the authorities carry out a prompt investigation to find the person responsible and ensure that justice is done.
