The video of a Peruvian National Police (PNP) preventing the passage of a taxi carrying a woman in labor went viral on social networks. In the clip you can hear the husband of the pregnant woman begging the agent to allow them to continue their trip.
“Miss, please let me in. She’s going to die because of you.”Karen Marcelo’s husband tells the PNP agent, who preferred to give priority to a troupe that passed through Giraldez Avenue, through the center of Huancayo.
“The lady won’t let me pass. I have a patient who is going to give birth. Is an emergency. He is dying. Is she going to let him die?”, the husband of the pregnant woman rebuked him. To which the PNP responded: “He dies”.
Desperate, the man begged to let them pass because his concern was greater since the baby had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck.
“At that time I was not fit to listen to her. But I know my husband and the police were fighting. From the contractions I didn’t know what was happening. (My baby) had the cord twisted (in the neck) when they sent me to the El Carmen hospital, but we couldn’t get there anymore and we went to a clinic.”, Karen Marcelo told Latina.
In this regard, the PNP reported that the Inspectorate is investigating the case and will take the corresponding disciplinary actions. “We are apologizing for the case to the entire population of Huancayo, to the (aggrieved) family”said General PNP Gregorio Villalón, head of the VI Macro Police Region
As a first action, the traffic police would be relocated while the investigations last, detailed the aforementioned media.
