Five people was the total deceased in a car accident occurred nine kilometers from the city of Moa, a municipality located to the east of Holguin.
The figure rose with the death of two injured who had remained in critical condition. The accident occurred when a truck from the Ferroníquel Mining Company overturned around 1:30 on Monday in the Centeno area, according to local media reports.
The victims were identified as Yunibal Durán Gómez (25 years old), Yoelquis Castañeda Leyva (20 years old), Ornelis Ramírez Cuba (50 years old), Yoel Castañeda Caballero (50 years old) and Yeiler Urrutia Muñoz (34 years old). They all had residence in Moa.
The accident occurred when a truck belonging to the Ferroniquel Mining Company overturned and the causes that originated it were being investigated.
The most recent report from the National Traffic Directorate and the Road Commission places 7,302 traffic accidents registered in Cuba between January and September of this year.
These have caused the death of 507 people, an increase of 157 deaths compared to the same period in 2021, according to official statistics.
The main causes are inattentive driving and lane invasion and speeding, the traffic authorities said.

Other causes are ignoring traffic signs, the low risk perception of pedestrians and drivers, the poor condition of the roads due to lack of maintenance and the circulation of a fleet of vehicles with more than 50 years of operation.
In 2021, 8,354 claims occurred, which represented an increase of 8.32% (632) compared to 2020 and left 589 dead; while in 2020, the 7,712 accidents reported on Cuban roads left 475 dead.
