Trade unionist Douglas González arrested for complaints about Venalum

The leader of Venalum was transferred to the city of Barcelona. The arrest was ratified by the Unitary Federation of Oil Workers, through its secretary Iván Freites, who held President Nicolás Maduro directly responsible for this arrest.

The Intersectorial of Workers of Guayana denounced on the night of August 2 the arrest of union leader Douglas González in the state of Anzoátegui, by security agencies.

According to the complaints, the trade unionist was passing through Puerto Píritu on his way to the city of Caracas, where he planned to denounce a series of threats and mistreatment against the workers of Venalum, a company to which he is attached.

The ITG assured that the arrests of trade unionists are carried out “with the complicity of all the actors in the tripartite dialogue”, with the International Labor Organization (ILO), which recently held talks with representatives of the Maduro administration to set the second stage of the Social Dialogue Forum.

It was learned that the leader of Venalum was transferred to the city of Barcelona. The arrest was ratified by the Unitary Federation of Oil Workers, through its secretary Ivan Freites, who directly held President Nicolás Maduro responsible for this arrest.

“They have not been able to break us, nor will they be able to do so, the fight for a free and sovereign Venezuela continues,” Freites assured on social networks.

The La Causa R party also expressed solidarity with González and lamented his arrest. “The dictatorship persists in its terrorist campaign against the working class,” they assured.
