The trade union centers that group the domestic workers received this Tuesday the Minister of Labor, Luis Miguel De Campswhere they socialized the proposed resolution that seeks to regulate the rights of these domestic workers in the Dominican Republic.
During a meeting held at the headquarters of the National Confederation of Trade Union Unity (CNUS), the representatives of the workers cleared up any doubts they had regarding the issue and agreed to join efforts to achieve positive results in the public consultation to which they are subject to said resolution.
The women expressed that the refusal to regulate this sector was due to the misinformation that existed on this subject and insisted that establishing a fair minimum wage for these workers would prevent unemployment and informality.
Likewise, they thanked the Minister of Labor, Luis Miguel De Camps, for having met with the unions, since they needed to clarify important points of said resolution.
“For the first time, social justice will reach the doors of domestic workers,” said Ruth Díaz, representative of the National Union of Domestic Workers Fenamutra (UNFETRAH) and the National Federation of Working Women (FENAMUTRA).
The women said that, with this resolution and this public consultation, it is shown that the Dominican government certainly has the political will to guarantee the rights of domestic workers.
For his part, Minister Luis Miguel De Camps guaranteed the convening of the National Salary Committee to begin discussions and determine a minimum wage for these employees.
He stressed that his will as Minister of Labor is to be able to guarantee that the rights of workers are respected, especially in this sector that has been forgotten for years.
