Trade balance deficit fell in January

The country’s trade balance deficit for the first month of the year it was US$1,479.3 million, according to a Dane report.

(The trade balance deficit moderated 5% in November 2022).

The figure is less than the US$1,684.9 million that had been registered in the same month of 2022.

The records show a reduction in both foreign sales and purchases.

Imports totaled US$5,529.7 milliona decrease of 8.6% compared to the figure seen during the first month of the immediately previous year.

The entity pointed out that the manufacturing group was the one that contributed the most to the decrease, with 18.1% fewer purchases made during this month.

In the case of external sales, these were US$3,694.9 million, with a reduction of 2.8% compared to what was previously registered, according to data from Dane. The fall is mainly explained by the fuel group, whose reduction was 4.5%.
