However, a group of visitors had not only the opportunity to see the glacierbut to witness live and direct an impressive detachment in the Perito Moreno.
The incident occurred last Friday at the Perito Morenowhen a group of tourists sailed through the icy waters, which is one of the main attractions in the place.
As they gazed at the immensity of the glacier, suddenly little by little parts of it began to detach, which amazed the spectators. However, when they thought they had seen everything, a new moment surprised them.
A thick mass of ice suddenly broke away and ended up buried under the water. The exact moment in which the ice wall of more than 60 meters collapses in seconds was recorded on video.
Once the images were broadcast on social networks, the event went viral, because seconds after the surprising event, a huge mass of ice can be seen in the water.
How often do parts of the Perito Moreno Glacier break off?
The tourist guide Diana Retamar, in charge of recording the images, revealed to Infobae that it is increasingly common to see this type of event, especially in the northern part of the glacier.
“There are usually landslides from the base of the glacier, but they were not as frequent as those from the surface walls. Here, in front of its north face, particularly we have noticed much more activity lately”, he expressed.
However, investigations date that this type of events occur in the place between every 2 and 4 yearswhich makes it one of the most beautiful spectacles of nature.
