The business unions of the Tourism sector in Peru issued a joint pronouncement rejecting the decision of the Ministry of Culture to maintain the face -to -face sale of a thousand daily tickets for the entrance to Machu Picchu. As they pointed out, the measure lacks technical support and continues to generate uncertainty both in tourists and the operators of the sector.
The pronouncement, signed by multiple private associations, warns that the measure negatively affects travel organization, increases costs for visitors and deteriorates the image of Peru as a safe and reliable tourist destination at the international level.
This letter indicates that instead of optimizing the visitor’s experience, the face -to -face sale of tickets submits tourists to long lines, misinformation, resale and informality. Far from generating order, they point out, this measure imposes a system far from the international standards expected of a world -class tourist destination.
Likewise, the guilds argue that the face -to -face sale forces tourists to spend an extra night in Machu Picchu Pueblo, which unnecessarily increases the costs of the trip and affects the predictability that every traveler needs to organize their itinerary in advance.
One of the most critical points of the pronouncement is the warning that several international operators have begun to withdraw Peru from their catalogs, due to the uncertainty in the availability of entries to Machu Picchu. This situation is already generating cancellations and leading many tourists to reconsider their decision to travel to the country.
The impact, they warn, goes beyond Cusco. Interconnected destinations such as Lake Titicaca, Arequipa, the Sacred and Lima Valley are also harmed, which weakens the tourism value chain and hinders the recovery of the sector in the postpandemics context.
In addition, the unions demand the immediate installation of a technical table with the participation of the formal private sector, with the aim of building sustainable and agreed solutions that guarantee efficient and orderly management of tourism in Machu Picchu.
“Machu Picchu cannot continue to be managed under social pressures or political-partisan criteria”, Indicate, adding, that a modern administration oriented to the visitor”It is not an option, it is a commitment”
