Last Saturday, at around 6:55 p.m., police officers belonging to the Machu Picchu Police Station learned through Ministry of Culture personnel about the death of a tourist of American nationality in the Ayapata sector (Inca Trail). , community of Huayllabamba.
The Police coordinated with personnel from the Ministry of Culture and Sernanp, in order to travel to the scene of the events, three hours away from Machu Picchu Pueblo, to carry out the procedure to remove the body of the tourist and be transferred to Km. 82 Piscacucho sector – railway line and subsequent admission to the Legal Medicine morgue of the Province of Urubamba, for the legal necropsy.
Based on the facts that arose, consultations were made with the tour guide, Ayben Cruz, who was in charge of the deceased tourist identified as Richard Frank Pochron (67), stating that on that day at 9:00 a.m. they left from the Km. 82 Piscacucho sector to complete the Inca Trail, at 5:00 p.m. they were resting in the Ayapata sector, where the tourist became unbalanced and from one moment to the next he began to convulse, apparently fainting as a result of the walk and height, so he immediately proceeded to perform first aid (resuscitation), with negative results, apparently realizing his death, and then reporting the fact to the Ministry of Culture staff.
It should be noted that several visitors have already died in Cusco in tourist areas. Cultura Cusco points out that local governments must install quick aid stations with emergency doctors, but the mayors mention that this is the responsibility of Culture.
During the investigation, it is known that the deceased tourist was with a group of tourists, belonging to the Cusco Ab Expeditions EIRL tourism agency.
