Tourism: regions expect more travelers for Easter

Only one month left and families begin to plan their activities to enjoy the long holiday and companies in the tourism sector prepare for the season, after two years of restrictions due to the pandemic.

In this sense, Carlos Durand, president of the Board of Directors of the National Chamber of Commerce, Production, Tourism and Services – Perucamaras, stated that there is an expectation that a greater flow of tourists will be generated.

“There are places where the possibility of carrying out emblematic activities opens up, such as the case of the which is working on the protocols to experience Holy Week in Ayacuchana again”, he said.

In this region, it is expected that due to the holiday there will be a recovery of close to 70% compared to pre-pandemic levels.

The destinations

Carlos Canales, president of the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur), noted that this date will mobilize around a million people to destinations such as Ayacucho, Ica, Cajamarca, Tarma, and coastal beaches, where there will be an important internal tourism movement. , which will move the categories of restaurants, hotels and tourist transport.

Regarding this, Juan Stoessel, general director of the Peruvian Hotel Chain Casa Andina Hotels, added that the mountains and central jungle, and even the destinations near the small north and Cusco, are preparing for the visit of tourists who usually get tired of the beach and seek different destinations to travel.

Economic situation

Durand pointed out that it should be taken into account that the economic situation could imply a disincentive for mobilization due to the increase in costs due to inflation or transportation, as a result of the increase in fuel.

However, there is a very good perspective of the national tourist rebound and the employment levels have been high, reaching 90%.

“The release of capacity has helped a lot and the relaxations that the government has given in the latest health control measures suggest that this trend will continue,” he said.

For this reason, he noted that the sector is waiting for the measures to be maintained and that the increase in the wave of infections in European and Asian countries will not be reflected in our country, and that they will imply preventive restrictions.

“As things are, the expectations of the seasonality of Easter have a recovery forecast with respect to the levels of visitors that there have been in 2021, although it will not be the same for everyone, it will depend on each region,” added Durand.

According to Canales, the season is high and costs increase, but people are always willing to assume them.

Keep in mind

-According to Carlos Canales, the average ticket for Easter is S/200 per day per person. Thus, S / 800 are estimated for the 4 days that include transportation, accommodation and food.

-The president of Canatur added that an average of US$220 million will be generated for these festivities, in a decentralized manner.
