Around 313 thousand 583 tourists Colombians will visit the Dominican Republic during the current year, according to the projections of the local authorities.
The official statistics of the Central Bank and the Ministry of Tourism establish that only in January of this year did the country receive 26 thousand 937 visitors of that nation.
Due to this number, Colombia is the third issuing country of tourists to the country as far as currents go.
Of the total, 78% arrived in the nation through the Punta Cana airport. Meanwhile, the remaining 22% did so through the Las Américas José Francisco Peña Gómez terminal.
41.4% traveled from the Cundinamarca airport, 36.5% from Bogotá, 26.2% from Antioquia, 15% from Medellín, 7.8% from Cauca, 6.4% from Cali, 3.9% from Santander, 3.0% from Barranquilla, 3.2 % from the Atlantic and 2.8% from Envigado.
72% of Colombians who visit the Dominican Republic do so for leisure, 12% go to friends and family, 7% do so for business or conventions and 5% get to participate in weddings.
Other destinations
With the aim of diversifying the offer, from the Ministry of Tourism work together with the airline of Dominican capital arajet to establish two air operations a week at the Cibao International Airport.
The authorities seek to exploit the destinations Santiago and Puerto Plata with tourists arriving in the country through that terminal.
The country has received more visitors from Colombia than from France and Spain in the first two months of the year. The two European nations have historically been one of the largest emitters of tourists. The United States is the main emitter.
