The president of the Peruvian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Apavit)Ricardo Acosta, projects a 25% drop in American tourists in our country, after the alert issued by the United States to rethink trips to Peru due to high rates of crime and terrorism.
“Unfortunate, it is a consequence of the terrible image of the country that we are projecting abroad, it is worth saying that the United States is not the only country to warn its citizens not to visit Peru. This type of warning is a consequence of the current political crisis that our country is going through, which can cause a 25% drop in American visitors”held.
In that sense, Acosta stressed that although tourism is one of the pillars of the economy and generator of a large number of jobs, there are still many obstacles that slow down its reactivation, the product of poor government administration.
“The sector continues to receive stones and sticks, due to the constant strikes, roadblocks, citizen insecurity, corruption at all levels, as well as the lousy administration of the State, which lacks the minimum knowledge to remove to the country of the crisis in which we are plunged”, he pointed.
“To counteract this situation, we should mainly recover political stability, which I see as complicated as we are going,” he added.
capacity
On the other hand, the president of Apavit referred to the capacity in tourist places such as Machu Picchu, and how these measures affect the sector.
“Tourism has been declared an emergency, however, capacity continues in Machu Picchu, Huaynapicchu, among others. The consequence of maintaining these capacities is that today there is no longer available income to Machu Picchu until July 15 and Huaynapicchu until August 20 “, pointed.
For this reason, he expressed that it is not possible to think about boosting the number of tourists in the country if the limitations to the places with the most demand continue.

US alert
As is known, this past Wednesday, the United States recommended that its citizens rethink their trips to Peru, considering that the risk of suffering crimes or acts of terrorism has increased in some areas of the country.
Through a statement, the US Department of State announced that they place us at alert level 3, with 4 being the maximum, which means “avoid travel (to Peru) due to serious security risks.”
In addition, it was specifically requested not to travel to the department of Loreto, on the border with Colombia and Ecuador, or to the Valley of the Apurímac, Ene and Mantaro rivers due to the presence of terrorism.
