First Carlos Gardel Tango Festival will be held from December 11 to 15 in Tacuarembó

The Ministries of Tourism, and Education and Culture presented, together with the Municipality of Tacuarembó, the First Carlos Gardel Tango Festival, which will take place between December 11 and 15 in the city of Tacuarembó. The event will bring together the main national and international figures of the genre, in 12 shows at the Escayola theater and the main square, which will include singers, dance couples and milongas.

The launch of the event took place in the Arredondo room of the Ministry of Tourism. The acting head of the portfolio, Remo Monzeglio, participated; the Undersecretary of Education and Culture, Ana Ribeiro; the general secretary of the Tacuarembó Municipality, José Menéndez; members of the National Institute of Music and national and local artists.

The first edition of the Carlos Gardel International Tango Festival will take place in the capital of Tacuarembo, between December 11 and 15. The event will bring together the main national and international figures of the genre, in 12 shows at the Escayola theater and in the main square, which will include dozens of singers on each corner, dance couples, competitions and milongas.

On the occasion, Monzeglio highlighted the importance of the festival for the tourist development of the department and recalled the theory that Carlos Gardel was born there. “The dimension of the artist grew as time went by,” he said, adding that the festival is ideal to spread his legacy.

Ribeiro, meanwhile, pointed out that the cultural objective is to fulfill a musical tradition that is dear to Uruguay and recalled that 15 years ago the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared tango in Uruguay as heritage. intangible, award shared with Argentina.

“The first edition of the festival is a very important finishing touch and we hope it continues over time,” said Ribeiro, adding that it represents a cultural milestone for the country.
