Tottenham dismissed their manager on Monday interim, the Italian, Cristian Stellini, a day after the win against Newcastle (6-1), and chose Englishman Ryan Mason as his replacement.
Stellini had succeeded his compatriot at the end of March Antonio Conte, of which he was attached.
The ‘Spurs’ are fifth in the table six points behind Newcastle and Manchester United, who mark the qualifying places for the next Champions League.
That loss was considered “totally unacceptable” by Spurs president Daniel Levy.
The new coach of the team, Ryan Mason, is a former Tottenham player and English international, who had to hang up his boots in 2018 at just 26 years of age due to a head injury.
Mason had already served as interim coach at the end of the 2020-2021 season after the dismissal of José Mourinho.
Tottenham will host Manchester United on Thursday.
“Cristian will leave his position together with the whole of his coaching staff. Cristian was named at a difficult moment in our season, and I want to thank him for the professionalism that he and his technical team have shown in a context that is also difficult,” Tottenham president Daniel Levy said in a statement announcing his dismissal.
Stellini’s brief stint on the Tottenham bench ends with a single victory.
Under the baton of Conte, signed from Chelsea in November 2021, Tottenham finished in fourth place in the league last season and had started the current year on the right foot, losing only one of their first ten games.
But the situation changed diametrically, with the London team adding only two victories in the 22 games following the Premier, and being eliminated in the Champions League by AC Milan.
