The Peruvian forward Paolo Guerrerothe historic scorer of his country’s national football team, informed the club’s board of directors Cesar Vallejo The club announced its intention to unilaterally terminate the contract it signed this year, according to a statement released on Tuesday by the team from the Peruvian city of Trujillo. The club added that the player has been informed of “the corresponding obligations so that we are not affected by contractual penalties,” including those with sponsors.
The club also denied that Guerrero, 40, had requested his release before the Copa América, in which the forward participated until the team was eliminated in the first round. In its statement, the team added that it regretted what happened last Saturday, when Guerrero refused to enter the field during the match against Alianza Lima, for which reason he was notified to present his defense for violating internal regulations.
He stressed that he would be governed by strict compliance with national legislation and FIFA regulations, and he hoped that “this impasse would be resolved as soon as possible.” On Monday, the club’s founder, César Acuña, said that if Guerrero wanted to go to another team “he will have to come to an agreement with the president (of the club)” to find out what the conditions are to “be able to terminate that contract.” He added that “this is a negotiation, as founder I want them to reach an agreement in the best way possible.”
The club’s president is Richard Acuña, son of the founder, who already had a difficult start with Guerrero at the beginning of the year, when the player reported security problems before starting his contract in the Apertura tournament. Apparently, President Acuña was against letting Guerrero go and reminded him of the payment of compensation for his departure before the end of his one-year contract.

Amid this new controversy, Guerrero, who has played for clubs in Brazil, Germany, Argentina and Ecuador, spent Monday training alone with a physical trainer at the team’s headquarters. Last Saturday, Guerrero refused to enter the field when the team’s coach, Guillermo Salas, called him from the bench, while they were playing the first match of the Clausura against Alianza Lima.
“I don’t know what happened. The technical command’s need and request was for Guerrero to be substituted and they said he wasn’t fit enough to come in. We spoke with the president and directors. He was fit and had no problems,” said Salas after the match, which ended in a 3-2 victory for the team from Lima.
