Civil police officer Rodrigo Vasconcellos Nascimento, shot in the stomach during Operation Containment, on October 28, in Complexos do Alemão and Penha, died in the early hours of this Saturday (22) at Copa d’Or Hospital, south of Rio de Janeiro.
He was stationed at the 39th police station, in the Pavuna neighborhood, and was hit by a rifle shot, at the top of the Misericórdia mountain range, in Complexo da Penha.
Hemorio even asked for blood bags for Rodrigo, who had improved in the last few days and was already sitting up in bed. Delegate Felipe Curi, Secretary of the Civil Police, said that “very sad news. He was improving every day. I was visiting him last Sunday (16) and later found out from the doctor that he was in good spirits and ended up sitting on the bed later.”
Dead police officers
The secretary informed that Rodrigo “was another great hero who gave his life for society. It was not and will never be in vain. May God welcome him with open arms and comfort his family and friends”, concluded the police officer.
Governor Cláudio Castro, of Rio de Janeiro, said he received the news of the death with sadness. “I reaffirm my commitment to remain firm in confronting these criminals who spread fear and suffering, without retreating an inch”, he assessed.
With the death of Rodrigo Nascimento, the number of deaths in Operation Containment rises to 122, including five police officers, three civilians and two soldiers from the Special Operations Battalion (Bope).
