The Nicolás A. Solano Hospital, which is in poor condition, to the detriment of half a million people in West Panama, must be rescued and turned into a “third level” hospital that offers quality service, said the presidential candidate for the Popular Party (PP) Martín Torrijos Espino.
“Panamanians need a hospital with specialists, equipment and supplies that guarantee good medical care, where their human resources are supportive,” said the former president during a discussion this weekend with the leadership of the PP, in La Chorrera.
During the meeting, problems such as unemployment, health services, transportation, insecurity and the deficient supply of drinking water, among others that afflict the population, were addressed.
In this context, the former president stressed that “we are going to rebuild the country, without distracting ourselves; we have to work tirelessly for the project to become stronger [sumando voluntades] and restore hope to Panamanians, who are frustrated at not having a decent job, an organized health system, a safe country without corruption; as well as an interrupted water service and efficient and effective public transport.”
Regarding unemployment, the ex-governor stressed that development poles should be promoted by highlighting that the current administration missed the great opportunity through the Panama Pacific Agency (APP) to attract national and foreign investment that translates into wealth generation and employment for youth in order to “prevent migration and provide opportunities for our people”.
“The time has come to recognize that the reconstruction of the country is a collective effort, and that everyone’s participation is essential to build the Panama that we truly deserve,” said the political leader.
He expressed that “the country must be unified in solving problems, including youth and women.”
The national tour initiated by Torrijos Espino on Friday, in Changuinola, Bocas del Toro, concluded this Sunday in the city of Panama, with a meeting with delegates and leaders of the PP of this province.
