MIAMI, United States. — A tornado was recorded this Thursday in the community of San Pedrolocated in the municipality of Trinidad in Spiritu.
As reported by the state agency Latin Pressthe phenomenon occurred in the middle of a severe local storm and brought with it strong winds and electrical discharges.
The official media indicated that the tornado “caused damage to more than a dozen houses, to roofs and partial collapses, and to the Esteban Hernández elementary school, with no reports of damage.”
The report adds that still this morning the authorities of Trinidad together with the population were working to repair buildings, while relatives and students were doing so in the educational center that suffered the loss of part of its roofs.

Maira Fundora, municipal director of Education confirmed that the newspaper Escambray that the greatest affectations are reported in the educational center, with several of its premises without cover.
“In the first block, the address and the first grade classroom, the entire left classroom of the second block, the central corridor and half of the dining room,” revealed the official.
The audiovisual media and the school’s study material base were not damaged as they were sheltered in a place executed for their protection by the Office of the Conservator of Trinidad and the Valle de los Ingenios.
Regarding the recovery work, Grisel Sesmonde, vice-president of the Government in charge of construction and investment activities, declared to the provincial newspaper that minutes after the tornado “the neighbors joined the work to recover minor damage suffered by the tile roofs French, in addition to cleaning the streets and collecting debris.
Directors of the town also highlighted that the hundred-year-old houses made of this material resisted and were practically unaffected.
