In Mexico, the collection property payments represents 0.14% of the national GDP.
In the ranking by municipalities, it is observed that Zapopan, in Jalisco, is the town with the highest property tax collection at the national level.
In 2023 alone, Zapopan collected a total of 1,862.3 million pesos for this concept, according to figures from the SHCP (Secretary of Finance and Public Credit).
For their part, Guadalajara and Querétaro occupy the second and third positions among the municipalities that collect the most taxes from the collection of property taxes.
Monterrey also stands out in fourth place and Ciudad Juárez in fifth.
The property tax is a mandatory financial contribution that the owners of a home (house, apartment, land or building) must pay annually to their municipal governments. According to each federal entity, the authority empowered to manage this collection varies.
