The San Lázaro plenary will vote tomorrow on the reform of the National Guard (GN), which, in addition to returning the operational and administrative control of that corporation to the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), will also give powers in the Constitution to the deputies to approve a law on internal security that regulates the intervention of the armed forces in operations on the streets.
According to the opinion already approved in committees on August 22, section 31 of article 73 of the Constitution will be modified to establish that Congress has the power to issue laws that regulate and establish requirements and limits for the participation of the Army, Navy and Air Force in matters of internal security and in tasks supporting public safety
.
The reform also seeks to reverse the ruling of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, in April of last year, which ordered the withdrawal of operational and administrative command of the GN from the Army so that, no later than January 1 of this year, it would be assumed by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC).
In defense of the reform that will be voted on this Thursday, Morena and its allies stressed at the time that this action combats crime with greater cooperation measures and with the possibility that the GN conducts its own investigations of crimes.
For its part, and as they did during the analysis of the document in the Constitutional Affairs Committee, it is expected that tomorrow the opposition will vote against the proposal, since it considers it as a mechanism for perfect militarization
of the country and which also leaves the SSPC without elements and without room to operate.
