The Image Center will inaugurate the event this March 9 at 8:00 pm at the Museo de las Casas Reales, with the support of the Imagen 83 Foundation, Casa de Teatro and Banco Popular, official sponsor.
The artistic contest seeks to show the current panorama of the work related to the image, both in the hands of emerging and trajectory artists. Dominican creators, residents in the country and/or abroad, over 18 years of age, participate in the contest, both individually and collectively. Also foreigners with legal residence in the country.
The Biennial Hall assumes the role of a space that accommodates dialogue between different participants in the artistic practice linked to photography and video art; as well as for those who like to reflect on the concept of image. It is a unique showcase in the country that reviews the current evolution of both disciplines. On this occasion, 282 works were nominated, of which 114 corresponding to 54 artists were selected, of which 5 are collective.
98 photographs, 9 video-installations, 6 videos, and 1 photo-installation will be exhibited, which were accepted by the jury made up of Víctor Siladi, Gerardo Zavarce and Mayra Johnson, the soul of the event. After its conclusion, the opening will be given at the other two venues of the contest, Casa de Teatro and the Centro de la Imagen.
On the opening night, a First Prize for acquisition worth RD$200,000.00 and a Second Prize for acquisition worth RD$100,000.00 will be awarded, and the jury can grant honorable mentions if it deems it necessary.
The contest rules are available on the Centro de la Imagen website www.centrodelaimagenrd.org and on its social networks, according to a press release.
