Many people have expressed their dissatisfaction as a result of the increase in toll rates in the countrysince the adjustments made far exceed those announced by the National Government.

For example, drivers who have been traveling on the Autopista Norte, in Bogotá, have assured that they have been charged 15,400 pesos at the Fusca and Andes tolls, when in 2024 they paid 11,600 pesos. This means that, for this year, there was an increase in the rate of 32.7%, that is, around 3,800 pesos..

Firstly, in 2021, additional increases were agreed for these tolls with the aim of covering the costs of the expansion projects of the Autopista Norte and Carrera Septima, in Bogotá, which were agreed upon in the North Access concession 2.

The first increase was agreed for 2023 and was established at 2,500 pesos; However, this value had to be updated due to inflation at that time, so the adjustment remained at 3,300 pesos. As the Government chose to keep toll rates unchanged that year, the increase was extended to January 1 of this new year.

It is established that the second increase, set at 700 pesos, will be made in 2026, but, in addition, it must be updated with inflationso the adjustment will be even greater.

(Besides: Infrastructure objections to changes in normalization of toll rates).

Regarding the remaining 500 pesos to definitively complete the increase of 3,800 pesos, these correspond to 4.64% of the 2023 inflation that needed to be applied to the toll rate. Andes and fuscawhich are operated by the Accesos Norte 1 concession.

As this concession is a private initiative, that is, it does not receive resources from the Government to finance itself, the pending increase in inflation was the entirety and not 60% (2.78%) as if it applied for other concessions since this Wednesday .

Likewise, the Minister of Transportation stated that the same thing that happened with the Andes and Fusca tolls was also recorded at other tolls in the national territory.

(Further: The achievements and challenges that 2024 leaves for the Ministry of Finance).

An example of this is the Cisneros tolllocated on the Vías de Nus, in the department of Antioquia, which rose 65%, now costing 29,800 pesos for private vehicles. While the Aburrá toll, belonging to the Autopista al Mar (also in Antioquia jurisdiction), had an increase of 41% and its price remained at 29,900 pesos.

This is due to the fact that since the awarding of the concession contracts several years ago, increases were agreed upon that allowed the financial closures of the road infrastructure projects to be made.
