Together for Change (JxC) celebrated this Monday the electoral victory obtained in the legislative elections, which it described as “extraordinary”, while the dispute over the internal positions and the leadership of the opposition alliance for the future begins to emerge.
In a meeting of its national table, the authorities of the parties that make up JxC evaluated with optimism the results of the elections held this Sunday, spoke about the call for dialogue by the national government and demanded a change of course.
In addition to the partisan headlines, the meeting this Monday afternoon in the La Escondida event room, located on Avenida los Ombúes, in the lakes of Palermo, brought together the head of the Buenos Aires government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta; the elected deputy María Eugenia Vidal, and the radical governors of Jujuy, Gerardo Morales and of Corrientes, Gustavo Valdés.
The great absentee was former president Mauricio Macri, that after showing himself this Sunday in the bunker that JxC set up in Costa Salguero, he left this Monday for 10 days to Saudi Arabia, after receiving authorization from the Justice, since he is being investigated for alleged illegal espionage of the relatives of the victims of the sinking of the submarine ARA San Juan.
The meeting this Monday afternoon served to show the “unity” of the opposition alliance after an election that began to outline the internal positions and the reconfiguration of leaderships for 2023.
With that objective, at the end of the meeting, a statement entitled “Together for Change achieved an extraordinary triumph and the National Government must admit the tremendous defeat”, This statement was crowned with a press conference, offered by party presidents Patricia Bullrich (PRO), Alfredo Cornejo (UCR), Maximiliano Ferraro (CC) and Miguel Pichetto (Republican Peronism).
The text celebrates the “resounding” electoral victory with the “highest percentage of votes” of the history of that space, remarks that with these results JxC obtained “between 11 and 12 more deputies than those obtained by the Frente de Todos” and considers that it has fulfilled “more than enough the promise of obtaining the 5 senators”, noting that it won “in six of the eight provinces.”
JxC won this Sunday in key districts of the country, but with a lower performance than that obtained in the PASO in some provinces, such as Buenos Aires where it obtained a narrow victory and in Buenos Aires where, although the local ruling party reaffirmed its hegemony, the The list headed by María Eugenia Vidal obtained a lower level of accessions, while there was evidence of a growth of the candidate of the Libertad Avanza, Javier Milei.
In another paragraph of the document, the opposition alliance demands that the government “stop denying reality” and “react and produce the changes that the situation demands.”
“We are concerned about the Argentine people because the message at the polls was overwhelming so that there is a change of course”, he assured.
Already at the press conference, Bullrich, Cornejo, Ferraro, and Pichetto once again highlighted the victory obtained at the polls and objected to the political dialogue convened by the national government, although they appreciated the announcement by President Alberto Fernández regarding the presentation of a draft on the agreement with the IMF, which will be sent to Congress in early December.
“We appreciate you doing an act to celebrate our triumph, but the democratic thing would be to call Together for Change by phone, accept that they lost the elections and that there is a new agenda that the Argentines have set, “said Bullrich in the conference.
While, Ferraro celebrated the opposition performance in provinces such as La Pampa, Santa Cruz, Córdoba and Santa Fe, among others, and demanded that the Government “concentrate on responding to the most urgent problems.”, among which he mentioned “education, insecurity, inflation and the economy.”
“It does not seem bad to us that the President elaborates a proposal, a program, a course for the Argentines and sends it to Congress to be discussed,” Pichetto said about an official proposal on the debt with the IMF.
Harder, the radical Cornejo affirmed that “there has been no formal call for dialogue” but “a message recorded on teleprompter” by the President, and considered that “the people were sent forth and asked to change course.”
The meeting was also attended by the heads of the parties in Buenos Aires, the heads of the blocks and the inter-block in the Deputies and Senators, among others.
With the results of the election and an open dispute between the different forces that make up the space due to the lack of a single leadership, JxC faces the challenge of agreeing on a response to the invitation of the national government and initiating the elaboration of a proposal that will return to seduce the electorate after the overwhelming electoral defeat of 2019.
The radicals are willing to make the weight of their contribution to the electoral victory felt, mainly in Buenos Aires territory., where they insist on crushing the PRO that the triumph of the now elected deputy Diego Santilli in this Sunday’s elections would not have been possible without the presence of Facundo Manes on his list.
There are several radicals with Presidential claims: Cornejo, Morales, the national senator Martín Lousteau, and Manes himself join in that race.
Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, who personally chose Santilli and Vidal to head the Buenos Aires and Buenos Aires payrolls, managed to score a victory in his internal positioning with the triumph of both applicants.
In fact, on Sunday night in Costa Salguero, the Buenos Aires mayor appeared to speak like a presidential candidate.
Escorted by Vidal, Macri and Bullrich, Larreta called for “ending the crack” and emphasized that Together for Change put the “value of education, management, politics without privileges, security”.
Patricia Bullrich has already made it clear on several occasions that she also has aspirations, and she scored a victory in these elections with the comfortable victory of Luis Juez, who the head of the PRO sponsored as a candidate for national senator.
Gerardo Morales also managed to revalidate titles in Jujuy, where the ruling party Cambia Jujuy garnered 49.05 percent of the votes.
Mauricio Macri did not speak on Sunday in Costa Salguero, where the main speakers were Vidal and Larreta, but he did speak later in an interview with LN +, in which he assured that the results of the election day confirm that Argentines are living “the end of one era and the beginning of another. “
“This is a beginning that requires a transition. There are still two years of their government left. For this transition to occur in an orderly manner, we have to be responsible, serious and constructive as we have always been. We must try to help minimize the damage, because this Monday people are still having a very bad time, “said Macri hours before leaving for Saudi Arabia.
