Minister Dias Toffoli, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), decided this Friday (12) to restrict access by the INSS Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) to documents relating to breaches of bank, tax and telephone secrecy by banker Daniel Vorcaro, one of Banco Master’s partners.
By decision of the minister, the documents must be removed from the CPMI and sent to the Senate presidency, where they must be kept until a definitive decision by the STF on the issue. The president of the House, Davi Alcolumbre, is not part of the commission.
In the same decision, Toffoli denied the banker’s defense request and maintained the legality of the CPMI and Court decisions that determined the breaches of confidentiality.
Last week, the CPMI approved Vorcaro’s breach of confidentiality. The commission investigates Banco Master’s credit operations for retirees and pensioners and contributions of pension funds by public servants to the financial institution, which was liquidated by the Central Bank.
Vorcaro and other partners of the bank were the target of Operation Compliance Zero, launched by the PF to investigate the granting of false credits by Banco Master, including the attempted purchase of the financial institution by Banco Regional de Brasília (BRB), a public bank linked to the government of the Federal District.
On social media, senator Carlos Viana (Podemos -MG), president of CPMI, said that Toffoli’s decision causes outrage.
“This decision is not just strange. It is serious. Whenever access to essential documents is denied to a Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry, the investigation is weakened and society’s distrust of what is being attempted to be hidden increases”, he stated.
