It will be today at 2:00 in the afternoon when the Permanent Attention Court of the National District will announce the decision of the coercion measure that follows General Julio Camilo de los Santos Viola, involved in the Coral 5G case, which involves military and police officers and civilians in acts of corruption.
The Public Ministry (MP) requests 18 months of preventive detention against De los Santos Viola, who was deputy chief of the Presidential Security Corps (Cusep) and assistant to the head of security for former president Danilo Medina.
Judge Kenya Romero heard the arguments of the prosecutors, who also ask that the case be declared complex, as well as the arguments of the defendant’s defense, who allege the accusation has no basis.
At the conclusion of the hearing, the deputy attorney and director of the Special Prosecutor for the Persecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), Wilson Camacho, said that the behavior that the accused has had during the process is what ensures his preventive detention.
“This defendant has given much evidence of not wanting to submit to the process, since he has challenged the judge, filed two habeas corpus, filed a criminal complaint against the magistrate and undertook a ‘defamatory campaign’ against prosecutors and members of the Chamber Accounts ”, he expressed.
Camacho affirmed that these actions show that De los Santos Viola wants to withdraw from the process.
Insists on criticism of the judge
Julio Cury, Viola’s lawyer, once again referred to Judge Romero as “a judge of the MP”, after assuring that she acts as a “rubber stamp” of the persecution body.
“Here it is not worth right, budgets are not worth. It is a line, a behavioral pattern of judges added to the cause of the Public Ministry, ”said Cury.
He said that he will continue to present appeals so that the country knows what is happening in the justice system.
