Fine for not complying with Hoy No Circula
In the case of CDMX and ZMVM, the fine for not complying with vehicle restrictions ranges from 20 to 30 Measurement and Update Units (UMA), that is, between 2,262.8 to 3,394.2 pesos. The capital’s traffic agents, as well as municipal police and personnel from the Edomex Security Secretariat can sanction.
Tips
This Christmas, anticipate your trips and journeys to avoid setbacks and fines if you have a car with the above characteristics. Mexico City transportation services, such as the Metro and Metrobús, will also have adjustments to their schedules.
CDMX and Edomex ask not to burn fireworks or light bonfires this Christmas
The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAMe), as well as the Environment Secretariats of the governments of Mexico City (SEDEMA) and the State of Mexico (SMAyDS) urge citizens not to burn fireworks and light bonfires during the festivities.
According to a statement, between the months of December to February, pollutants (especially PM10 and PM2.5 particles) increase their concentration compared to the rest of the year, due to low temperatures and the presence of a greater number of thermal inversions that favor their stagnation and prevent their dispersion.
The burning of pyrotechnics and bonfires with firewood or tires, carried out during Christmas celebrations, causes air quality to worsen and, frequently, an atmospheric environmental contingency is declared in the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico (ZMVM), Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Toluca (ZMVT) and other Cities of the Megalopolis.
If the air quality is very bad or extremely bad in your area, it is recommended:
- Stay at home with the windows closed, this will prevent contaminated air from entering.
- Avoid doing vigorous outdoor activities on the morning of December 25, such as jogging or cycling, because this increases the rate of breathing and causes more pollutants to enter the body.
- If you are outdoors, use a face mask.
- Report wildfires to 800-737-0000 or 911.
Consult the air quality in the National Air Quality Information System (SINAICA), on the page of the Atmospheric Monitoring System of Mexico City http://aire.cdmx.gob.mx or in https://www.aire.cdmx.gob.mx/default.php?opc=%27YqBhnmI=%27 .
