Today, a march will be held from the Angel of Independence to the Senate against the proposed reform of the Federal Judicial Branch (PJF) that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador presented on February 5.
The call was made by private universities, and was joined by the Faculty of Law and Higher Education (FES), Acatlán, of the UNAM.
The Escuela Libre de Derecho, the Western and Monterrey Institutes of Higher Education, the Anáhuac, La Salle and Iberoamericana universities, and the Center for Economic Research and Teaching called for the mobilization. The students will demonstrate their rejection of the election of Supreme Court ministers, judges and magistrates. This protest will be added to the actions and sit-ins that PJF workers carried out this week in rejection of said reform.
UNAM Law School student Aldair Rodríguez, who last Wednesday in the march they held from Ciudad Universitaria to the facilities of the Federal Judiciary Council (CJF) was in charge of reading the position in favor of the striking workers in that power and of expressing the university’s rejection of the reform, stated that UNAM Law School students joined the call issued by private universities
.
The aforementioned institutions made the call for this Sunday’s mobilization through social networks. They also called on civil organizations. One of the posters distributed indicates: “the community of @ITAM will join the march on Sunday, September 1st, in defense of the Judiciary. Let us break the uncritical silence and passivity in the face of reforms.”
