Today is the Day: Yellow September and literacy are highlights

The week between September 8th and 14th begins with a very important date for education and development: World Literacy Day. Established by the UN with the aim of highlighting the importance of literacy for individual and social development, the date reminds us that, unfortunately (as this article shows Brazil Agency from last year), children’s literacy is still a challenge in Brazil. The topic was addressed by vehicles of the EBC as the Reporter Brazil in 2017 and the National Afternoonfrom the National Radioin 2021. Today is the Day: Yellow September and literacy are highlights

Another date that deserves to be highlighted this week is World Suicide Prevention Day. The event, created by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Association for Suicide Prevention, is a chance to discuss this sensitive topic and draw attention to issues related to mental health and suicide prevention. The so-called Yellow September was created with the aim of promoting actions in this regard. Actions that were the subject of content from EBC like the series Young People and Mental Health, from National Radio Agency of 2023.

The week has other commemorative dates such as Administrator’s Day (September 9), Programmer’s Day (September 13) and National Cerrado Day (September 11). The date that honors Brazil’s second largest biome was discussed at National Afternoon Amazon in 2023. The Reporter Brazil talked about the topic and explained the characteristics of the biome in 2019.

Ana Carolina, National and Viva Maria

Tomorrow, September 9th, one of the greatest voices of current MPB celebrates her birthday. Ana Carolina, owner of hits such as Quem de Nós Dois, Garganta and Encostar na Sua, was interviewed in vehicles of the EBC as the Uncensored in 2015.

Vehicles of the Brazilian Communication Company are also celebrated during the week. On September 12th, the National Radio of Rio de Janeiro turns no less than 88 years old. More than a celebration of the company, the station’s anniversary is a celebration of Brazilian radio. The station’s history has already been told a few times, such as in these 2016 specials EBC Portal and of the Reporting Paths:

Another celebration is to the program Long live Maryfrom the National Radio of the Amazon. On the 14th, the attraction hosted by Mara Régia completes 43 years on air. The day gave rise to another event: the Latin American and Caribbean Day of the Image of Women in the Media. The date was covered in specials of the EBC in 2017.
