The month of June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, dedicated to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual people and all members of the community. And the milestone of this period of celebrations and fight for rights is International LGBT Pride Day, celebrated on Tuesday (28). The date commemorates the Stonewall Uprising in 1969.
In the context of the revolt, patrons of the Stonewall Inn bar in Greenwich Village resisted a police approach to the establishment. Police operations were frequent and motivated by prejudice. With no alternatives, LGBTs had accommodated themselves to not fighting oppression by the police, but not on that June 28, 1969.
The Stonewall uprising gave rise to other demonstrations across the United States and around the world, becoming a watershed in the struggle for rights. But the fight continues. While eight out of ten LGBTQIA+ people are comfortable talking about their sexual orientation and gender identity in the workplace, 43% say they have experienced prejudice in the workplace. This is what this research reveals, impact on the Brazil Agency.
