Today is Day: Day of Favelas, design and laughter are highlights

The week between November 3rd and 9th is full of commemorative dates. Tomorrow is Favela Day. The date, promoted by Central Única das Favelas (CUFA), aims to give visibility to the issues and achievements of communities and their residents. The day commemorates the first documented reference to favelas in Brazil, from a letter written in 1900. This entire story was told in this article from National Radio Agency 2022:Today is Day: Day of Favelas, design and laughter are highlights

On November 5th, we have two dates related to the construction of knowledge. One of them is a tribute to the birth of Rui Barbosa, one of Brazil’s greatest jurists and intellectuals. It’s Culture and Science Day. On the same date, National Portuguese Language Day is celebrated.

November 6th is in honor of something that many people forget and take for granted: laughter. It is on this date that National Laughter Day is celebrated. Last year, the History Today and the Long live Mary talked about the health benefits of laughter. The editions that show that “laughter is the best medicine” can be heard below:

This week also has Radio Broadcaster Day. Celebrated on November 7th, the date was chosen in honor of the birth of composer and radio host Ary Barroso. THE Long live Mary last year paid tribute to the radio presenter’s trajectory and to his class. The same was done by Reporter Brazil in 2012.

The week also has a series of dates that help us celebrate and cherish memory. One of them is tomorrow, November 4th: on this day, the Union of Scouts of Brazil (UEB) celebrates 100 years of founding. UEB is the main organization linked to scouting in Brazil and aims, through outdoor activities (such as camps), to form conscious citizens and value cooperative practices. The movement was the subject of an edition of History Today this year and an article from Maranhão Reporter in 2007:

On November 6th, Anita Malfatti’s death marks 60 years. A central figure of the 1922 Modern Art Week, Malfatti was a pioneer in the introduction of modernist trends in Brazilian art. Its importance and influence on Brazilian art were themes of an edition of Art Club (from the MEC Radio) 2022, which can be remembered below:

In 2009, the program From There to Here made a special edition about her biography:

Another loss that turns 60 is that of the writer Cecília Meireles. It was on November 9, 1964 that she passed away. His entire trajectory was also told in an edition of History Todaythis time, in 2015.

Also on November 9th, the birth of another poet turns 80 years old. On this day, in 1944, Torquato Neto was born. One of the inventors of Tropicalismo, a cultural movement that marked Brazil in the 1960s, Neto was, in 2021, the subject of a special edition of program Mosaico, from Rádio Nacional da Amazônia:
