The public consultation process by the Ministry of the Environment (MiAmbiente), for the modification of the limits of the Donoso protected area, in the province of Colón, closes this Wednesday, June 8.

What is sought with this process is to regulate the situation of Donoso, since in 2009 the entire district was declared a protected area, which resulted in houses, churches and farms being trapped within the declaration of an ecological reserve and not being they could title

Currently, the Donoso multiple-use area comprises 177,065 hectares and there are 1,796 applications for land titling in the area, covering some 71,903 hectares. To this must be added the mining concession, which covers 12,955 hectares, which means that, between titling procedures and the mining concession, there is 48% of the area of the requested site.

MiAmbiente is requesting that all observations, suggestions and contributions to the topic be sent to the Legal Advice or Protected Areas addresses.
