Santo Domingo.– The deputy of the constituency 2 of the National District by the force of the people (FP), Crespo Tobiasaffirmed that the Motoconchistas constitute a reality in the Dominican Republichighlighting that motorcycle imports generated 97 million dollars in 2024.
The congressman, author of the Law 63-17 of mobility, land transport, transit and road safetycited data from the Continuous National Labor Force Survey of the Central Bankwhich revealed that the estimated motoconchist population amounts to 124,542 peopleupper figure in a 0.6 % to the total number of employees in the free zones of the country.

“The motorcycle is a key and important means of transport for a large part of the population, especially in lower income homes,” said Crespo.
According to a study of the ASSOCIATION OF CONCESSIONARIES OF MOTORCYCLE MANUFACTANTS (AFAMOTO)the National Park reaches 1,416,016 motorcyclesof which a 23.5 % (332,763 units) It circulates in the National District.
The report also details that, in addition to import impact, the circulation of more than 1.4 million motorcycles generates collections higher than 15.23 million pesos for gas tax.
As for the activity of the Motoconchistas, the report indicates that in the National District they are an essential component of urban transport, mobilizing passengers daily. On average, a motoconchista performs 36 trips per daywith a rate of 75 pesos per passagewhich represents approximate income of 2,300 pesos a day, 13,800 weekly pesos and even 55,200 pesos per month.

The sector, in addition to sustaining thousands of jobs directly linked to transport, also energizes the economy in related services and businesses. Of the 185,000 busy in the motorcycle sectora 84.4 % uses it as a means of transport and a 15.6 % in service and trade activities.
Crespo promised to continue promoting initiatives from the Congress that strengthen this “important and thriving” sector of national mobility.
