Although its position improves in 2026, the Island’s passport continues to offer very limited access at a global level.
MADRID, Spain.- Cuban citizens will be able to travel in 2026 to a total of 58 countries and territories without the need to obtain a traditional visa before departure, according to the most recent update to the Henley Passport Indexone of the main international indicators on freedom of movement.
According to this ranking, the Cuban passport is currently ranked 77th worldwide, a position that reflects its low rating in terms of visa-free access and places it among the travel documents with the least entry facilities compared to most countries in America and Europe.
The list of destinations includes countries that allow visa-free entry, with visa upon arrival or by electronic travel authorization (eTA or eVisa), modalities that, although they simplify the process, are still subject to compliance with requirements such as a valid passport, return ticket, proof of funds and, in some cases, accommodation reservation.
On the American continent, Cubans can access several Caribbean and Central American countries without a prior visa, including Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Nicaragua, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago.
In Europe, access remains very restricted and is limited to nations outside the Schengen area, such as Belarus, Moldova, Montenegro and Russia, while the countries of the European Union maintain the visa requirement.
Asia concentrates a significant group of destinations with entry facilities, including China, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, East Timor, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. In Africa there are countries such as Egypt, Kenya, Seychelles, Mauritius, Rwanda, Tanzania, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe, mostly under visa-on-arrival or electronic authorization regimes.
Options also appear in Oceania, such as Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu, Micronesia, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu, as well as in the Middle East, where Iran and Qatar stand out.
Despite these possibilities, the Cuban passport continues to be one of the worst valued in the global mobility index, far below the travel documents of North America and Western Europe, whose citizens can access more than 170 countries without a visa.
Migration specialists recommend always verifying, before planning any trip, the updated entry conditions in the consulates or official sites of each country, since agreements can be modified by diplomatic decisions or changes in immigration policies.
