"To trace the locations where Evo carried out the sexual abuse of minors, the collaboration of the bodyguards he had was essential."

As announced, yesterday the journalist Alejandro Entrambasaguas published in El Debate alleged evidence against Evo Morales for sexual abuse of minors, when he was president.

From Spain, he gave an interview to EL DEBER and defended the veracity and seriousness of his investigation.

– How do you receive information directly from the Police?
I have not said that the information was given to me by the Police, but rather that the Police found it and that senior officials related to the MAS ordered it hidden to protect Evo.

In any case, keep in mind that it was I who revealed the two cases of sexual abuse of girls, which currently surround the former president judicially.

I moved from Spain to Bolivia on two occasions and traveled practically the entire country, in search of the evidence that I later published.

During these years I have maintained contact with the sources that helped me at the time, and for this reason I have been able to continue having access to the confidential information that I have now published again.

– What role did the Prosecutor’s Office play in these cases, taking into account that it is the formal entity in charge of the investigations?
The Prosecutor’s Office, in Bolivia or in any country, is an essential body in the fight against those who commit crimes. However, I myself wonder why in 2020, when I began to publish the reports that today are feeding the investigation notebook of the Public Ministry, nothing was done and now it is.

However, the important thing is that it be investigated, and above all that this matter is not allowed to end in impunity. The departmental prosecutor of Tarija, Sandra Gutiérrez, has a fundamental role.

– Have you been able to corroborate the authenticity of the photos published in your report?
The three photographs that I have published in the investigative report (the first of the girl crying, and raising the alarm to her relatives; the second of her leg with purple marks, the result of having received blows; and the third with a puddle of blood) are part of a report classified with the degree of secrecy that the FELCC sent at the time to the Departmental Prosecutor’s Office of La Paz. The prosecutors assigned to the case confirmed it.

-How can we verify that the photos have some connection with Evo Morales?
The Police find the photographs of the attack on the girl’s own phone and discover that she took them while she was with Evo in the mansion in Buenos Aires, where she lived when fleeing the country after complaints of electoral fraud.

The accusation of Evo for assault was one of the agents’ lines of investigation. However, there were police superiors close to the MAS who ordered the matter to be covered up so that it would never reach the courts. This has been kept hidden until I have obtained the evidence and published it.

– How do you ensure that there was no manipulation of the data received in these cases?
Because the procedure in which the Police intervened in the images was totally transparent.

One of the teenagers who had a relationship with Evo was arrested, her phone was seized, its contents were put into a report and sent to the Prosecutor’s Office. No one ever challenged the process. Evo, although he could have done it, didn’t do it either. Just as he does not want to take a DNA test now to check if he impregnated another girl when he was only 14 years old, as appears on the birth certificate of a baby that I published.

– How did you ensure that they were evident, because in this case there are political interests?
Politics is one thing and the courts are quite another. In democracy the law is the same for everyone and there is independence of the judiciary. It doesn’t matter what your name is, what your purchasing power is or what religious beliefs you have.

For this reason, Evo has to give explanations in court, as would happen in the case of another person who was denounced for the same facts.

In Spain, for example, the wife and brother of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, are currently being judicially investigated for corruption and are answering to judges and prosecutors.

Evo’s whereabouts are unknown since the arrest warrant was issued and he has not stopped threatening violence in the streets if the investigation against him progresses.

– What independent or additional verifications did you apply to avoid possible bias?
I began to investigate this matter because I was contacted en masse by numerous MAS officials who knew about and condemned the sexual abuse of the former president’s girls.

I will keep their identities anonymous forever because I gave them my word of honor, but if their names reached Evo… These are people who have seen these aberrations with their own eyes for years and want it to be known and pay for it.

– Were you able to speak with any other source who was linked or close to Evo Morales during the period in which the reported crimes could have occurred?
Of course. In total, adding the time of the two trips I made to Bolivia in 2019 and 2020, I was in the country for almost six months. During that time I met all kinds of people. I had contact with the people who at that time were running the country in the political, business, judicial and police spheres, and also with anyone on the street who recognized me and wanted to talk to me. That made me open up the range of sources in a spectacular way.

– What reasons did the Police find to share such sensitive information with you?
I say again that I have never said that the information was provided to me by the Police. On many occasions, the sources are ordinary, normal people who, for reasons of life, or simply by chance, have had access to valuable documentation.

Each source has its motivation. Some do it out of patriotism, others out of revenge, but they all have something in common: the conviction that good prevails over evil.

– Did you perceive any interest or actions that could show protection in favor of Evo?
He was president for almost 14 years. This has allowed him to ‘parasitize’ the institutions, placing people he trusts everywhere. Even so, if he sexually abused girls during these years, it was because he had a support network to do so.

I have revealed that he had a military man who acted as a “getter of ñustitas”, and that in exchange he promised to make him a minister. Also that there were people who knew it and acted. Some of them were Álvaro García Linera, Carlos Romero, Sacha Llorenti, Andrónico Rodríguez or Leonardo Loza, among others. They would also have to be asked for explanations because they were necessary for the crime of statutory rape to be committed.

– Why do you think the Police issued these reports just now?
The reports were issued four years ago, but it was not until now that I had access to them.

– Did you have contacts with any official in the Arce Government about these complaints that became known right at the end of your mandate?
If I have had it I cannot reveal it. As an investigative journalist, it is my duty to talk to everyone who can provide me with relevant information.

– What evidence or evidence did your sources show you about the use of the house in Achumani, the nightclub and the Casa Grande del Pueblo, as the scenes where the rape would have been committed?
To trace the exact locations where Evo carried out the sexual abuse of girls, the collaboration of several of the bodyguards he had during his last stage as president has been essential.

– What is the perception of Evo Morales in Europe after this scandal?
In Spain and in most European countries, Evo’s image has been terrible for many years. He is the prototype of a populist who perpetuated himself until he became an autocrat. But, without a doubt, the cases of sexual abuse of girls have been devastating for their image.

He says that he does not feel safe in Bolivia and, yet, no foreign leader invites him to go live abroad. It is no coincidence that no one wants to receive him anymore.

– Do you think it could have an impact on a larger investigation, beyond the political fight?
At this point, this situation can and should only be resolved in court. Judges and prosecutors have the obligation to go to the end, no matter who falls.

– What do you think of the attack report that Evo Morales announced today?
Everything indicates that it was staged, but we will clear up any doubts after the police investigation.

I publicly announced two weeks ago the exact day that I was going to publish the tests and, coincidentally, this happened just that day. Victimhood in the form of false attacks is an old tactic that all tyrants in the world repeat incessantly on a regular basis.
